Key takeaways
- Botify is an enterprise technical SEO platform (crawler, log files, Search Console data) that added an AI Visibility dashboard in late 2025. Promptwatch was built for AI search from day one.
- If you run a site with millions of URLs and need to fix crawl and rendering problems, Botify's SiteCrawler is the stronger tool. If your question is "how do I get cited in ChatGPT, Perplexity and AI Overviews?", Promptwatch is the stronger one.
- Botify's AI Visibility is an option on top of Botify plans and uses custom enterprise pricing. Promptwatch publishes prices, starting at $95/month.
- Promptwatch covers content creation and publishing (Content Agent, WordPress, Webflow, Framer). Third-party comparisons list Botify's content creation as not confirmed.
- Plenty of large teams will end up using both: a crawler for the site, a GEO platform for the answers.
Why this comparison keeps coming up
Botify spent years as a technical SEO crawler for enterprise sites. In October 2025 it launched AI Visibility, and by February 2026 that product was available to every Botify customer. Suddenly Botify shows up in "AI visibility tools" lists next to platforms that never crawled a single page.
So buyers ask the obvious question: do I need a technical crawler that also tracks AI, or an AI visibility platform that also understands crawling? They sound similar. They start from opposite ends of the problem.
I'll be upfront: this site is published by 1001 SEO Media, which uses Promptwatch as its GEO platform. I'll still try to be fair to Botify, because for some sites it is the right call.

What Botify actually is
Botify is built for enterprise SEO teams managing very large websites where technical issues directly cost visibility. Semrush's roundup describes it as purpose-built for enterprise technical SEO, and the numbers back that up: SiteCrawler can crawl up to 50 million URLs per crawl at 250 URLs per second, and render JavaScript at 100 URLs per second. It combines crawl data, log files and Google Search Console data to show how search engines and AI bots actually move through a site.
The AI Visibility product sits on top of that. Botify's own blog says it generates prompts from your first-party data, including top Search Console keywords and People Also Ask. That is a sensible approach for a crawler company: start from what you already rank for. According to Botify's support docs, the dashboard is part of the Analytics Suite and is "available as an option" with Botify plans, so it isn't a standalone purchase.

The launch press release covered Google AI Mode, ChatGPT and Perplexity. Botify's current product page lists AI Overviews and Gemini too, so the coverage has widened since launch.
Two things I could not verify: a public Botify price, and published prompt limits. seoClarity's comparison also lists Botify's SmartIndex (submitting content to "search and AI engines" and serving content to visiting bots) but I did not verify the details of that either, so treat it as vendor-stated.

What Promptwatch actually is
Promptwatch starts from the other direction. It runs prompts through the real interfaces of AI engines, reports where your brand shows up, and then tries to close the loop: find the gap, write the page, publish it, check whether it got crawled and cited.

The pieces that matter for this comparison:
- Prompt tracking with monthly volumes, difficulty scores and query fan-outs, so you see the web searches an AI runs behind one answer.
- IP-verified AI crawler logs (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and others) with spoofed bots filtered out, joined to citations per page.
- Visitor analytics showing actual traffic and conversions from AI platforms.
- Content gap analysis, the Content Agent (Business and Enterprise), and publishing to WordPress, Webflow and Framer.
- An Action Board and Agent Chat that turn the data into a prioritized to-do list.
- ISO/IEC 27001 certification and GDPR compliance, useful when procurement asks.

Where the two overlap, and where they don't
Both tools care about how AI bots treat your site. Botify approaches it from a crawl and log-file angle. Promptwatch's crawler analytics shows which AI bots visited, which pages they read, what errors they hit, and which of those pages ended up cited.
That last link matters. Promptwatch Data's AI crawler traffic report (June 8 to September 6, 2026) found OpenAI made up 79.8% of IP-verified AI crawler requests in the week of August 31 to September 6, down from 94.8% in the week of June 8. The mix is shifting toward Google, Anthropic, Perplexity and others. The report's advice is practical: compare your own logs to the overall mix, and if a provider has a big share overall but is near zero in your logs, you are probably blocked for it. Robots.txt, CDN and WAF rules are the first place to look.
That check is useful whichever tool you buy. A log-based crawler and an AI-specific log viewer answer related but different questions: "can bots reach my pages?" versus "did reaching them turn into citations?"
Where they don't overlap:
- Botify has no equivalent, as far as public information shows, of an end-to-end content workflow tied to AI prompt gaps.
- Promptwatch is not a classic site crawler. It runs weekly audits with 21 checks (broken links, orphaned pages, missing sitemap entries, titles, headings, freshness), but it won't crawl 50 million URLs or diagnose a JavaScript rendering problem on a faceted-navigation e-commerce site.
Technical depth: Botify wins at scale
If your site has millions of URLs, the main risk is often not "AI doesn't mention us" but "half our catalog isn't being crawled or indexed properly." Botify is built for exactly that. Rendering at scale, log analysis, segmenting by page template, finding crawl budget waste: this is its home turf.
Profound's comparison guide says to choose Botify if you regularly need to deploy technical fixes to make a site crawlable for LLMs, and to skip it under roughly a thousand pages. Profound is a competitor, so take the framing with salt, but the size cutoff is reasonable. A 400-page SaaS site does not need an enterprise crawler contract.
For smaller technical jobs, other crawlers in this space include Screaming Frog, Sitebulb, OnCrawl, JetOctopus and Lumar. They don't track AI answers, but they handle the crawl side.
AI visibility depth: Promptwatch wins on breadth and action
Botify's approach, building prompts from your Search Console data, will mostly confirm that you are visible where you already rank. That is a fine starting point. It is a weaker one for discovering prompts you don't rank for yet.
Promptwatch's prompt intelligence covers monthly volumes, difficulty, query fan-outs, personas and prompt types (organic, brand-specific, competitor comparison). It also tracks things a crawler vendor is unlikely to prioritize: Reddit, YouTube and LinkedIn citations, ChatGPT shopping carousels, ads in AI answers, and coding agents like Claude Code and Codex.
The citation landscape moves fast enough that this matters. Promptwatch Data shows reddit.com's share of ChatGPT citations fell from about 4% to about 0.5% on August 14, 2026 (report). On the same dataset, ChatGPT drew just 0.46% of its citations from social platforms between September 28 and October 4, 2026, while Google AI Overviews drew 12.2% (social media citations by AI model). A tool that reads each engine's real interface can see these differences. If you only have one blended number, you will miss them.
Fan-outs are another example. Promptwatch Data's ChatGPT query fanouts report measured an average of 2.15 fanouts per response in early December 2025, about 1.84 by early March 2026, and exactly 1.0 when the data returned in April. And ChatGPT started using the site: operator at scale on August 8, 2026, jumping from about 0.4% to about 17% of fanout queries (report). Behavior like that changes what "optimized" means, and you want a tool that notices.
Content and execution
This is the clearest gap. Finding that you are invisible for a prompt is half the job. Somebody has to write the page.
Promptwatch maps your pages against the prompts AI answers, scores coverage, then drafts the missing content with the Content Agent, grounded in your Knowledge Base and Brand Book, and publishes to WordPress, Webflow or Framer. Published pages are tracked through crawls, citations and AI traffic, and underperformers come back as actions. Crisp, one customer, saw 2x higher conversion rates from AI traffic than from traditional channels while scaling to 5 to 10 articles a day.
Botify positions itself as an "agentic AI platform for online discoverability," and seoClarity's table lists its content creation as not confirmed. If your team already has a content operation and mainly needs technical delivery, that may not bother you. If you expect the platform to help produce pages, ask Botify's sales team for a demo of exactly that workflow before signing.
Pricing
Botify has no public price. Enterprise crawler platforms typically scale with URLs crawled and seats, and the AI Visibility option adds to that. Expect a sales process.
Promptwatch publishes plans (confirm current numbers at promptwatch.com/pricing):
| Plan | Monthly price | Highlights |
|---|---|---|
| Explore | Free | 1 project, 10 prompts, ChatGPT only |
| Essential | $95 | 50 prompts, 6,000 responses, all AI models, site audit, 360 Insights |
| Professional | $245 | 150 prompts, 18,000 responses, 25M crawler logs, 5 AEO articles |
| Business | $579 | 350 prompts, Content Agent, local GEO targeting, 100M crawler logs |
| Agency Kick-off / Growth / Scale | $199 / $399 / $799 | Unlimited projects and prompts, white-label reporting |
AI crawler logs start at Professional. Essential works out to roughly 1.6 cents per response, which is cheap by monitoring-platform standards.
Which one should you choose?
Pick Botify if:
- You manage a site with hundreds of thousands or millions of URLs.
- Your biggest problems are crawl budget, JavaScript rendering, indexation and site architecture.
- You already have Botify, and the AI Visibility option is a cheap way to add a view.
Pick Promptwatch if:
- You want to know why you are or aren't cited, and fix it with new or refreshed content.
- You need coverage of many AI engines, plus Reddit, YouTube, shopping and ads.
- You are an agency that needs white-label reporting across clients.
- You want published pricing and a self-serve start.
Use both if you are a large retailer or publisher. Botify keeps the site crawlable and well-structured. Promptwatch measures what AI does with it, and generates the content to fill gaps. Nothing about the two conflicts.
How to decide in a week
- Run a free check first. Promptwatch's Free AI Visibility Report and Agentic Readiness Check take minutes and need no login.
- List your real problem. If the top three items are crawl and rendering, start with a crawler. If they are citations and content gaps, start with a GEO platform.
- Check your own logs against the crawler mix described above. Near-zero hits from a major AI provider means fix access before buying anything.
- Ask each vendor to show the full loop on your domain: prompt, gap, page, crawl, citation, traffic.
For wider shopping, the GEO software directory lists dozens of alternatives, including enterprise options like seoClarity, Conductor and BrightEdge.
Bottom line
Botify is a very good answer to "our giant site has technical problems," with AI tracking attached. Promptwatch is a good answer to "AI search should be a revenue channel," with crawler and audit data attached. Decide which sentence describes your biggest problem, buy that tool first, and add the other later if the budget allows.
