Best AI Overview Trackers With Google Search Console Integration in 2026

Google Search Console now reports AI Overview impressions, but it still shows no prompts, citations or competitors. Here is how the best AI Overview trackers with GSC integration compare in 2026, with pricing and what each one adds.

Key takeaways

  • Google Search Console now has a Search Generative AI performance report (launched June 3, 2026), but it only gives impressions by page, country, device and date. No clicks, no queries, no citation detail, no competitors.
  • A tracker with GSC integration pairs your own first-party data with what Google's AI answers actually say and cite.
  • Confirmed GSC connections: Promptwatch (GSC queries feed prompt suggestions) and ZipTie (AI Overview visibility next to rankings, clicks and impressions).
  • Semrush, Ahrefs, SE Ranking and Otterly cover AI Overviews well, but I could not verify a GSC integration for them. Check each vendor's docs before you buy.
  • AI Overviews and ChatGPT cite different sources, so a ChatGPT-only tracker will miss most of what happens in Google.

What changed in Search Console in 2026

A lot of older roundups still say you can't see AI Overview data in Search Console. That was true until this summer. On June 3, 2026, Google launched Search Generative AI performance reports, one for Search and one for Discover. They show impressions in AI Overviews and AI Mode, and per Google's announcement the dimensions are Pages, Countries, Devices (Search only) and Dates.

There are limits, and they matter when you decide what a third-party tool needs to cover:

  • Impressions are the only metric. No clicks, CTR, position or query view.
  • AI Overviews and AI Mode are lumped together, not split.
  • Per eSEOspace's write-up of Google's documentation, the report reached all sites worldwide by August 31, 2026. Exports turn some values into zeros and cap at 1,000 rows.
  • The data still counts inside the regular Web performance report, so don't add the two together. They overlap.
  • Google's AI features documentation still says AI clicks and impressions are counted in the Web search type.

So GSC tells you how often your pages appeared. It doesn't tell you what the answer said, who else was cited, whether your brand was named, or which prompts triggered it. That gap is the whole reason to pay for a tracker.

Why GSC integration matters in a tracker

Two things happen when a tracker connects to Search Console.

First, it can seed prompts and keywords from queries you already rank for, instead of you guessing. Starting from real impressions is a much better way to build a prompt set than brainstorming in a spreadsheet.

Second, it can overlay AI visibility on traditional performance, so you can ask which pages rank fine in Google but never get cited in AI answers. That is the question most teams actually have.

One warning. I found no tool that ingests the new Generative AI performance report through an API, and Google hasn't documented one. Where a vendor says GSC integration, it almost certainly means the standard Performance data. Ask the vendor exactly which report they pull.

Why you need more than a ChatGPT tracker

AI Overviews behave differently from ChatGPT. In Promptwatch's social media citation data for Sep 28 to Oct 4, 2026, social platforms earned 12.2% of AI Overview citations versus 0.46% for ChatGPT, about 26 times more. Within AI Overviews, YouTube was 4.28%, Facebook 2.38%, Reddit 2.15% and LinkedIn 1.55%.

The content mix also shifted. In July 2026, listicles averaged 18.0% of AI Overview citations and product pages 16.3%, but from July 28 product pages were the most cited format every day, the first time they overtook listicles. And in June 2026 month-to-date data, google.com's share doubled from 1.15% to 2.30% in one month, with YouTube at 4.16%. Google is citing itself more.

A tracker that only checks ChatGPT would have missed all of that.

The best trackers, one by one

Promptwatch

Promptwatch is the one I would start with if the goal is closing the loop between Search Console data and AI visibility. You connect GSC from account settings, and your Search Console queries feed prompt suggestions automatically, so your prompt set starts from terms you already get impressions for. The Professional plan adds a Looker Studio connector that blends Promptwatch data with GA4 and Search Console, and there is a REST API and an MCP server.

It tracks Google AI Overviews and AI Mode through the actual user interface, plus ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and others, by country and language. Its Search Insights view puts Search Console and Bing traffic next to AI crawls and citations per page, which answers the "ranks in Google but never cited" question directly. And unlike monitoring-only tools, it moves on to action: content gap analysis, an Action Board and a Content Agent that writes and publishes to WordPress, Webflow or Framer, then tracks whether the page gets crawled, cited and clicked.

Pricing starts at $95/mo (Essential, 50 prompts, 6,000 responses). IP-verified crawler logs start on Professional at $245/mo. There is a free Explore plan, but it tracks ChatGPT only, so it is not a real AI Overview option. Confirm on promptwatch.com/pricing.

ZipTie

ZipTie is the cheapest confirmed GSC option. Per Searchable's roundup, it integrates with Search Console so you see AI Overview visibility, traditional rankings, clicks and impressions in one place. Omnia's roundup adds that it has an AI assistant that generates prompts from URLs or GSC imports.

Plans start around $42.75/mo, and a 7-day trial includes 25 daily prompts across ChatGPT, AI Overviews and Perplexity. Pricing is configured by prompts, engines and cadence rather than seats. It is a good fit if you mostly want a clean combined view and don't need content tooling.

Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit

Semrush's Base plan is $99/mo per domain on annual billing, with 25 custom prompts across ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini and Perplexity. Semrush says its prompt database holds 289M+ prompts. Semrush has a long Search Console connection on the classic SEO side, but I could not confirm that the AI toolkit uses it, so ask before you assume. The 25-prompt cap is tight for anything beyond a pilot.

Ahrefs Brand Radar

Brand Radar covers AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot and Gemini. For Google surfaces it also uses search-query-based indexes, meaning it tracks the keywords that trigger an AI answer. Prompt Tracking is free on paid Lite plans and above, with custom-prompt packages from $50/mo, while the AI Visibility Index starts at $199/mo. I did not confirm a GSC integration in my sources. One roundup says there is no free trial, only a limited demo.

SE Ranking

SE Ranking sells AI Search as an add-on: $89/mo, or $71.20/mo billed annually, covering AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini. Core is $129/mo and Growth $279/mo, and Core plus AI Search plus the Agency Pack lands around $240/mo. The pricing unit is one check equals one prompt plus one AI platform, so costs scale with how many engines you watch. Good if you want classic rank tracking and AI Overview citations in the same dashboard.

Otterly.AI

Otterly is a simpler monitoring tool. One roundup lists the Standard plan at $189/mo with 100 prompts, API access, MCP and a Looker Studio connector, while Promptwatch's own comparison lists an entry price of $29/mo for 15 prompts. That gap suggests tiers differ a lot, so check the pricing page. It tracks Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity. I couldn't verify a GSC connection.

How to choose

A few questions settle most decisions.

  • Do you need GSC overlay specifically? Then shortlist Promptwatch and ZipTie, the two with confirmed integrations in the sources I reviewed.
  • Are you already paying for Semrush, Ahrefs or SE Ranking? Try their AI add-ons first, since you avoid another login. Just don't assume GSC data flows in.
  • Do you want fixes, not just charts? That points to a platform with content and action tooling rather than a monitor.
  • How many prompts will you really track? Count it. Per-prompt-per-engine pricing like SE Ranking's gets expensive quickly.
  • Do you need AI Mode separately from AI Overviews? GSC lumps them together, so a third-party tracker is the only place you can split them.

A practical setup

Here is the stack I would run:

  1. Use Search Console's Generative AI performance report as your free baseline for impressions by page and country. Do not add it to the classic report.
  2. Connect GSC to your tracker so prompts start from queries you already earn impressions for.
  3. Track 30 to 50 prompts that match real buying or research questions, in each country you sell in.
  4. Look at mentions versus citations. A citation without a mention means your page supports the answer but your brand is not the answer. A mention without a citation means Google knows you from other sites.
  5. Review monthly. Citation behavior moves fast, as the product page and listicle swing in July showed.

FAQ

Can Search Console track AI Overviews?

Partly. Since June 2026 there is a dedicated report with AI Overview and AI Mode impressions by page, country, device and date. It does not give clicks, queries, citations or competitor data, and it does not separate AI Overviews from AI Mode.

Do I still need a third-party tracker?

Yes, if you care about what the answer says, who else is cited, or whether your brand is mentioned. GSC only counts your own appearances.

Why not just use a ChatGPT tracker?

Because the engines cite different sources. Searchable's own data found only 25.2% of prompt-and-domain pairs cited by AI Overviews were also cited by ChatGPT, and Promptwatch's data shows AI Overviews leaning far more on social platforms.

Is the pricing here final?

No. Figures come from October 2026 roundups and vendor pages. Check each pricing page before you commit.
