Key takeaways
- Headline prices are misleading. A $29 plan with 15 prompts split across 4 engines gives you very little ChatGPT data, while a $95 to $100 plan can cover 50 prompts a day.
- Compare tools by price divided by (prompts x refreshes x engines). That is your real cost per response.
- For a ChatGPT-only scenario of 50 prompts, the realistic entry points are Peec AI at $95/mo, Trakkr at $100/mo, Rankscale Pro at $99/mo and Profound's Starter at $99/mo, according to the sources we reviewed. Prices change often, so check each vendor's pricing page.
- A single response cites a crowd of domains, so one prompt tells you little. Budget for many prompts, not a few.
- Do not confuse this with ChatGPT's own subscription pricing (Plus at $20, Pro from $100). That is what you pay to use ChatGPT, not to track it.
Why "rank tracking" pricing is confusing
ChatGPT has no results page and no stable position. A ChatGPT rank tracker runs a fixed set of prompts on a schedule and records two things: whether your brand was mentioned, and whether your page was cited. Vendors then charge for that sampling in at least four incompatible ways:
- Flat tiers with a prompt cap (Otterly, Peec AI)
- Credits, where each engine or response burns a different amount (Rankscale, AthenaHQ)
- Add-ons for extra engines, prompts or seats (HubSpot AEO, Semrush)
- Pay-per-check, typically $0.03 to $0.13 per check
The result is that a $29 plan and a $99 plan can have a very similar cost per response once you account for how many engines share the prompt budget. I would not trust any comparison table that only lists the entry price.

What a "response" actually is
Before doing the math, define the unit. One response is one prompt run on one engine at one point in time. Your monthly response count is:
prompts x refreshes per month x engines
So 50 prompts checked daily on one engine is roughly 1,500 responses a month. The same 50 prompts checked weekly on one engine is about 200.
There is a second reason to care about volume. Promptwatch Data for Sep 28 to Oct 4, 2026 found that 47.6% of ChatGPT responses cite 10 or more unique domains, and 52.5% for organic prompts with no brand named. Answers are crowded, and a single run is a noisy sample. Separately, SparkToro research covered by Search Engine Journal found that matching brand lists in the same order came back under 0.1% of the time across repeated runs. Cheap per-response pricing matters because you need repetition to see a signal.
One more wrinkle: ChatGPT's search behavior changes. In Promptwatch's query fanout data, average web searches per response fell from 2.15 in early December to about 1.84 by early March, then moved again, and ChatGPT started using the site: operator at scale on August 8, 2026. Your tracker's cost per response stays the same while what each response contains keeps shifting.
The pricing tiers, side by side
Prices below come from the vendor-based comparisons we reviewed (October 2026) and are unverified against live pages. Treat them as a starting point and confirm before buying.
| Tool | Entry price | Prompt allowance | Engines on entry tier | Catch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rankscale | $20/mo ($17 annual) | Credit-based, zero credits on Essentials | 9+ | Pro at $99/mo is the usable tier |
| Otterly.AI | $29/mo | 15 prompts | 4 | Standard is $189/mo for 100 prompts |
| HubSpot AEO | $50/mo ($45 annual) | 25 prompts | 3 | Still beta, add-on price unpublished |
| Ahrefs Brand Radar | From $50/mo | Gated by Ahrefs plan | 5 | Needs a base Ahrefs subscription |
| ZipTie | $69/mo | Credit-based checks | Multiple | Report delays noted |
| Peec AI | $95/mo | 50 prompts, daily | 3 chosen | Perplexity is paid add-on |
| Semrush AI Visibility | $99/mo per domain | 25 prompts | 4 | +50 prompt pack about $60 |
| Profound | $99/mo Starter (per one source) | 50 prompts | ChatGPT only | Growth is $399/mo; other sources say entry is nearer $499 |
| Trakkr | $100/mo | 50 ChatGPT prompts a day | 8 | Covers 1 brand |
| AthenaHQ | $295/mo | 3,600 credits (1 credit = 1 response) | 11+ | No published refresh cadence |
| Scrunch | $300/mo ($250 annual) | 350 custom prompts | About 6 | Plan layout varies by region |
| Goodie | $399/mo billed annually | Varies | 5 to 13 by tier | Agency tier is separate |
Note the Profound discrepancy. One comparison lists a $99 ChatGPT-only Starter, another says entry pricing starts around $499, and the reseller-style research describes Profound's own pricing as a free trial or enterprise custom. When sources disagree, assume you will be talking to sales.
Tool-by-tool: what the money buys
Budget trackers
Rankscale is the cheapest on paper at $20 a month, and ChatGPT is one of its cheapest engines to check at 0.25 credits. But Essentials ships with zero included credits, so the real starting point is Pro at $99 with 1,200 credits.
Otterly.AI is the most transparent. Lite is $29 (15 prompts), Standard $189 (100 prompts, API access) and Premium $489 (400 prompts), with extra engines like Claude or Google AI Mode available as add-ons. The 15-prompt cap is thin once it is split across 4 engines.
Otterly.AI

Morningscore and ZipTie sit around $69 to $99 for their first useful tiers, though the sources disagree on Morningscore's exact tiers ($49 to $259 in one, $69 to $299 in another). Both use credit-style limits.

Mid-range dedicated trackers
Peec AI is the cleanest fit for a 50-prompt scenario at $95: daily checks, ChatGPT as one of 3 chosen models, no overage math. Claude is Enterprise-only, which matters if you want it.
Trakkr's $100 Growth plan gives you 50 ChatGPT prompts a day with no per-model surcharge. If you read that as a 1,500-response monthly allowance on ChatGPT alone, it is arguably the lowest cost per response in this group. The limit is one brand on the entry tier.
Profound is covered by [tool:profound] and is a different story: the entry price depends on which source you believe, and the enterprise tier is custom.
SEO suite add-ons
Semrush and Ahrefs both bolt AI tracking onto an existing subscription. That is cost-effective if you already pay, and expensive if you do not.

For a 50-prompt scenario, Semrush's $99 base covers only 25 prompts, so the +50 pack takes it to about $159. Brand Radar's $50-plus add-on sits on top of an Ahrefs plan, and the 50-a-day volume needs Advanced or higher underneath.
HubSpot AEO is the cheapest explicit citation split at $50, but its 25-prompt cap is shared across 3 engines and it is still in beta.
Enterprise-leaning
AthenaHQ's free tier has 300 one-time credits that run out almost immediately. Starter at $295 gives 3,600 credits, and because 1 credit is 1 response, that is a clear price per response. Scrunch at $300 ($250 annual) gives 350 custom prompts and separates citation analysis from share of voice. Goodie's Core plan is $399 annually or $478.80 monthly.

What a ChatGPT-only 50-prompt scenario costs
Suppose you want 50 prompts tracked on ChatGPT only. Here is what the cheapest sufficient tier looks like, based on the figures above.
| Tool | Cheapest tier that covers it | Monthly price | Why the headline price does not apply |
|---|---|---|---|
| Peec AI | Starter | $95 | Clean fit, no overage |
| Rankscale | Pro | $99 | Essentials has zero credits |
| Trakkr | Growth | $100 | 50 a day, far above 50 a week |
| Otterly.AI | Standard | $189 ($160 annual) | Lite's 15 prompts split across 4 engines |
| Semrush AI Visibility | $99 + prompt pack | About $159 | 25 included prompts |
| AthenaHQ | Starter | $295 | Credits cover it easily |
| Scrunch | Starter | $300 ($250 annual) | 350 prompts, lots of headroom |
| Goodie | Core | $399 annual | Growth tier is agency-shaped |
| Profound, Conductor | Not calculable | No published base | Routes to a sales call |
The pattern is clear. The effective entry point for a serious ChatGPT-only program is about $95 to $100 a month, not $20 or $29.
Doing the cost-per-response math
Here is a rough way to compare. Assume 50 prompts, one engine.
- Daily refresh: 1,500 responses a month. At $100 a month, that is about $0.067 a response.
- Weekly refresh: about 215 responses a month. At $100, that is about $0.47 a response.
- Pay-per-check at $0.1284 (AI Rank Checker): 1,500 checks cost about $193 a month, so a flat plan wins once you pass roughly 780 checks.
- AthenaHQ Starter: 3,600 credits at $295 is about $0.082 per response, if you use them all.
- Rankscale: ChatGPT at 0.25 credits means 1,200 credits on Pro stretch to roughly 4,800 ChatGPT checks, about $0.02 each. That is the cheapest unit price in this group if you can use the volume.
Those numbers are my own arithmetic from published plan limits. Vendors rarely publish a per-response price, and they will not all define a response the same way. Ask each one whether a response means one engine run, one prompt across all engines, or one credit.
The pay-per-check pricing in the research (roughly $0.03 to $0.10 per check) is fine for audits and testing. At daily volume, the same research found that tracking 500 keywords daily costs $4,500 to $15,000 a year, versus a few thousand on subscription tiers. Subscriptions win for ongoing tracking.
Costs that do not show up on the pricing page
- Engine splits. A prompt cap shared across 3 or 4 engines divides your ChatGPT coverage by that number.
- Credits that expire or do not roll over. Check the terms.
- Seat and brand limits. Trakkr's entry tier covers one brand, and Semrush charges per domain.
- Region pricing. Ahrefs Brand Radar prices vary (EUR 47 or GBP 40 elsewhere).
- Billing term. Annual billing typically takes 15 to 17% off but locks you in. Semrush's own pages reportedly disagree on billing term and trial.
- Locale and country coverage. Tracking across countries multiplies prompts.

Monitoring only versus fixing problems
Most of the tools above stop at reporting. You pay for the number of times your brand was mentioned, then you figure out what to do about it. That is fine if you have a content team and just need data.
Promptwatch sits at the other end of that spectrum. Its plans are priced from $95 a month (Essential: 50 prompts, 6,000 responses, all models) up to $579 for Business, and they include crawler logs, visitor analytics and content tooling, so the cost per response comes with the diagnosis and the fix. Its Essential plan lands at about $0.016 per response at the stated response allowance, though you should confirm current pricing at promptwatch.com/pricing.

ChatGPT's own pricing, for the record
Some readers land on this topic looking for ChatGPT subscription costs. These are separate from rank tracker costs. Per the sources reviewed, ChatGPT's individual tiers are Free ($0), Go ($8), Plus ($20), and Pro from $100, with Business at $20 to $25 per user and Enterprise custom. One October 2026 source also describes $200 and $500 Pro tiers added since; another August source says no $200 plan appears on OpenAI's pages. Those sources conflict, so check openai.com/chatgpt/pricing directly. None of these plans track your brand. They just let you ask ChatGPT questions.
How to pick a tier
- Count your prompts. Be honest. 50 is a reasonable starting set, 100 to 350 for a larger brand.
- Decide on refresh rate. Daily gives you trend data. Weekly is cheaper but noisy.
- List the engines you need. If ChatGPT is the only one that matters, a ChatGPT-focused plan beats a 9-engine plan with a thin cap.
- Calculate cost per response with the formula above.
- Check what is actually included: citations, sentiment, crawler data, exports, API.
- Trial two tools for a couple of weeks and compare what they report on the same prompts. Differences will tell you more than any pricing page.
The bottom line
If you want ChatGPT-only tracking at 50 prompts, plan on roughly $95 to $100 a month. Go lower and you are probably buying an engine-split cap or zero credits. Go above $295 and you are paying for enterprise features, agency workspaces or content tooling, which is worth it only if you will use them. Whatever you choose, confirm the current price on the vendor's own page before you commit, because this category changes every few weeks.
