Profound vs Scrunch in 2026: Which AI Visibility Platform Wins After the Sitecore Acquisition?

Sitecore bought Scrunch in June 2026. Here is how Profound and Scrunch compare now on pricing, data depth, engine coverage, and roadmap risk, plus when a third option makes more sense.

Key takeaways

  • Sitecore announced its acquisition of Scrunch on June 3, 2026. Scrunch still sells standalone, but its roadmap now belongs to Sitecore.
  • Profound wins on measurement depth: prompt-level volume data, broad engine coverage, and agents. Scrunch wins on serving agent-friendly pages to AI crawlers through its Agent Experience Platform (AXP).
  • Scrunch's public Core plan is $250/mo, but AXP is Enterprise-only. Profound has no self-serve brand plan, just a trial and custom Enterprise pricing.
  • Most head-to-head claims online come from vendors. Profound's own comparison is written by its own marketer, and Rankability sells a competing product.
  • If you want monitoring plus content execution plus crawler analytics without enterprise sales cycles, a third option is worth a look.

What actually changed with the Sitecore deal

On June 3, 2026, Sitecore announced it was acquiring Scrunch. Chris Andrew is now CEO of Scrunch, a Sitecore company, and Eric Stine remains Sitecore's CEO. Sitecore's press release says Sitecore plans to automate Scrunch recommendations inside SitecoreAI Content Management, Content Marketing and Digital Asset Management.

Note the wording: "will be". That is a roadmap, not a shipped feature. Rankability's write-up puts the price at roughly $225M, but I could not find that figure in Sitecore's own release, so treat it as unconfirmed.

What does this mean for a buyer? Two things, mostly.

First, Scrunch is not going away. It still has public pricing and a standalone product. Second, the long-term center of gravity moves toward Sitecore customers. If you run Sitecore, that is a plus: tighter integration between visibility data and your content system. If you run WordPress, Webflow, or something else, you are betting that Sitecore keeps investing in the standalone product.

Profound's own comparison article says as much, advising buyers to weigh how much future investment will be aimed at Sitecore customers. Of course it does. It is a competitor. The concern is still reasonable, just not neutral.

Profound: where it is strong

Profound is the heavier, more enterprise-shaped product. The tool card below pulls its catalog entry.

The headline feature is its prompt volume data. Most AI visibility tools can tell you whether your brand showed up for a prompt you chose. Profound claims to tell you which prompts people actually ask and how often, split by demographics. That changes how you plan. You stop guessing which 100 prompts to track and start from demand.

Other strengths from its official pricing page:

  • Daily front-end browser querying that mirrors what real users see
  • ChatGPT Shopping tracking on Enterprise
  • Agent Analytics for crawler visits, with a wide integration list
  • Unlimited seats on all plans
  • CSV/JSON export, API, SSO/SAML, and SOC 2
  • Support up to a dedicated specialist with a 24-hour SLA

The weaknesses are about access and price. Brands see a free trial (50 prompts for 7 days, three engines, no export or API) and then a custom Enterprise plan. No published number. You will talk to sales. For agencies, there is a self-serve Agency Growth plan; a third-party source (ZeroRank) lists it at $99/mo plus $399/mo per full client workspace, but I could not verify those figures on Profound's own page.

The brand-side Starter ($99) and Growth ($399) tiers that some comparison sites still quote seem to have been dropped from the official page. Ignore articles that cite them.

Scrunch: where it is strong

Scrunch is the more approachable product on paper, and the one with the more distinctive technical idea.

Its AXP serves a machine-readable version of your pages to AI crawlers. Rankability says it can cut delivered page size by up to 98%. Sitecore's own case studies lean on this: Akamai compared AXP-enabled pages against comparable non-AXP pages and reported a 364% increase in appearances in non-branded AI answers and a 218% increase in citations. Runpod reported a 400% increase in paying customers tied to its AI search work.

Those are vendor-reported numbers. They are interesting, and I would not bet a budget on them without running your own test. They also all hinge on AXP, which is Enterprise-only.

The public Core plan at $250/mo gives you:

  • 125 unique prompts and 5,000 responses a month
  • 5 site audits a month and 1 brand workspace
  • 5 user licenses
  • 4 LLMs: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Copilot
  • 1 country, 1 persona, 1 language, 5 competitors
  • Agent traffic, sentiment analysis, insights, and 1 page optimization per month

That is a real starting point, but note what is missing: Claude, Gemini, Meta AI, AI Mode, and Grok all sit behind Enterprise. So do full site audits, API, Looker Studio, and MCP.

Older third-party pricing pages list Starter at $300 and Growth at $500, or Explorer at $100. Scrunch's official page now shows only Core and Enterprise. Expect more changes post-acquisition.

The pricing problem

Here is the awkward part. The cheapest way to try Scrunch is $250/mo with a limited engine list and no AXP. The cheapest way to try Profound is a 7-day trial and then a sales call.

If you are a mid-sized team that wants to know what you will pay before talking to anyone, Scrunch is easier. If you are an enterprise that will talk to sales anyway, the question flips to which data you trust more.

How to read the comparison articles

A lot of the content ranking for this query is not neutral, and it matters.

The widely shared claim that Profound has 47.1% visibility while Scrunch sits at #23 with 4.7% comes from Nick Lafferty's post. Lafferty is Profound's Founding Marketing Engineer, and the same author wrote Profound's own comparison article. That is a marketing claim, not a benchmark, and visibility percentages like that depend heavily on what prompts you measure and who is measured.

The Rankability post is more balanced in tone, but Rankability sells a competing product and names itself the pricing winner. A Reddit thread praises Scrunch's source-level transparency and fast gains, which is an anecdote, not a test. I did not find an independent, non-vendor head-to-head. Run a pilot.

A simple way to decide

Pick Profound if:

  • You are an enterprise that wants demand data (prompt volumes) to drive planning
  • You care about breadth of measurement and agentic execution
  • You are fine with a sales-led purchase
  • You want unlimited seats and SOC 2 and SSO from the start

Pick Scrunch if:

  • You already run Sitecore, or plan to
  • Technical agent-readability is your bottleneck, and you will pay for Enterprise to get AXP
  • You want a published entry price to trial against
  • You are comfortable with the roadmap being tied to Sitecore

Skip both, or at least check alternatives, if you want content execution tied to your visibility data and a price you can read on a page.

Why engine coverage and crawler data matter

Both vendors sell on engine breadth, and that is a real criterion. Promptwatch Data's average sources per response report shows how different the engines are: ChatGPT cites about 5 sources per web-search answer, AI Overviews about 10, and Perplexity almost exactly 10 a day. Copilot swung from under 2 to nearly 17 within a few weeks before settling low. A platform that blends engines into one number hides that. Ask both vendors to show per-engine results.

Crawler data is the other test. In Promptwatch's AI crawler traffic data for June 8 to September 6, 2026, OpenAI made up 79.8% of IP-verified AI crawler requests in the week of Aug 31 to Sep 6, down from 94.8% in the week of June 8. The mix shifts fast, so you want logs from your own site, not a benchmark. Profound's Agent Analytics and Scrunch's Agent Traffic both address this. Ask whether the logs are IP-verified, since spoofed bots are common.

Third options worth a look

The Profound vs Scrunch framing assumes enterprise budgets. Plenty of teams are not in that bucket.

If you want monitoring plus the work of fixing visibility in one place, Promptwatch is the option I would put on the shortlist. Its pitch is that it goes past tracking: IP-verified crawler logs, visitor analytics for AI traffic, content gap analysis, and a Content Agent that writes and publishes to WordPress, Webflow, or Framer, then tracks whether each page gets crawled and cited. Plans are published, starting at $95/mo for Essential, with Business at $579/mo including the automated Content Agent. Confirm at promptwatch.com/pricing.

Questions to ask in a demo

Whichever vendor you talk to, bring these:

  1. Do you collect from the real front-end of each engine, or from APIs? How do results differ?
  2. Which engines are included at the price I will actually pay?
  3. Is crawler data IP-verified, and which CDNs do you connect to?
  4. Which results are independently verified rather than vendor case studies?
  5. For Scrunch: what is the post-acquisition roadmap for non-Sitecore customers, and will AXP leave Enterprise?
  6. For Profound: what does a realistic annual price look like for my prompt count?
  7. Can I export everything if I leave?

Bottom line

Profound is the better pick if you want depth of data and agentic execution and have an enterprise budget. Scrunch is the better pick if you run Sitecore or if AXP-style agent pages are the lever you need, and you accept that its future is tied to Sitecore's. Neither has independent head-to-head proof behind it, so a 30-day pilot on the same prompt set, scored by you, will tell you more than any comparison post, including this one.
